In the first week of September 2024 alone, the Jackson Police Department is investigating its fourth homicide, equaling the number of homicides the department investigated in the entire month of August.

Tommie Brown, JPD public information officer, said officers began investigating Thursday the death of a man found at Maddox Road and TV Road in South Jackson.

Brown said the discovery of a body on a roadway occurred Thursday morning. Police learned the unidentified victim had been shot and died at the scene.

The identity of the victim has not been released pending notification of his next of kin. No arrests have been reported at this time.

The killing at Maddox Road and TV Road marks the fourth homicide of September, according to Clarion Ledger records.
