Motorcycle accident in Nashville leaves man fighting for life

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — City police are investigating several motorcycle accidents this year, with 11 fatalities reported so far. One of the latest crashes sent local musician Dalton Black to the hospital with serious injuries, prompting his family to plead with drivers to be careful.

Dalton Black, a singer-songwriter who performed at Tootsie’s on Broadway, was seriously injured in a car accident Friday night on Murfreesboro Pike.

“On Friday, my daughter and I were at the carnival during the day and we picked up a drum set for her band. Now we’re wondering if he’ll ever see her play that drum set,” Samantha Black said.

Samantha said she expressed concerns about Dalton driving over the holiday weekend, but he assured her he would be safe.

She added that Dalton always wears a helmet, heavy boots and leather clothes when he rides.

However, when she later checked his location, Dalton appeared to be at a gas station and did not respond to her messages. She soon discovered he had been taken to the hospital.

Metro Police say the vehicle entered Black’s lane, causing him to veer off the road and fall off the motorcycle. The motorcycle landed on top of him.

“Everyone says watch out for motorcycles and I think it’s something that people know about but take it lightly until it happens to them or a family member or someone close to them,” Samantha said.

Black suffered serious injuries, including a traumatic brain injury, despite wearing a helmet. He underwent emergency surgery to treat a fractured skull and relieve pressure and swelling around his brain.

Samantha Black hopes her husband’s story serves as a wake-up call to drivers.

“Unfortunately, we just have to stop having that attitude when it comes to waiting for a response to a text message, or, you know, looking four times instead of three. You know, that will impact and could impact someone’s life forever, like mine and my family’s.”

Dalton is showing signs of improvement as he continues to fight for his life. In the meantime, his family is demanding justice and has set up a GoFundMe campaign to help with medical costs.

The Metropolitan Police are actively investigating the crash and are seeking to speak to the driver of the HGV involved.
