NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A motel on Airline Highway near the Hollygrove area has been closed.

Orleans District Attorney Jason Williams held a press conference on Wednesday, September 4, saying the London Lodge Motel was closed after a multi-department, multi-jurisdictional investigation revealed “rampant criminal activity,” health code violations and quality of life issues.

According to Williams, the motel has been the scene of several crimes, including homicides, drug and gun sales and rapes since June 2023.

“We don’t have enough police officers or prosecutors. So we can go after the sites that are responsible for most of the crime to try to reduce and prevent further crime,” Williams said.

He also noted that the property had become dilapidated, citing piles of rubbish, broken windows, missing doors, gas leaks and pests.

“This is an important moment for the communities of Airline Highway and Hollygrove, which have been burdened by rampant criminal activity and deplorable living conditions on this property for far too long,” Williams said.

New Orleans City Hall Evacuated Due to Possible Gas Leak

Williams said the city of New Orleans’ lockout ordinance was used as part of the effort to shut down the motel. The shutdown is the first time the ordinance has been used since its inception.
