A man is in hospital in life-threatening condition after a car accident.

Essex Police said officers remained on the A130, near the Rayleigh Spur roundabout near Rayleigh, with the road closed from Sadlers Farm roundabout since 04:30 UK time.

Drivers were advised to find alternative routes. Police said the road was likely to be closed “for several hours.”

Police said no one else was involved in the accident and appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Essex County Council has reported traffic disruption on the A13 at Sadlers Farm roundabout to the A127 at Fairglen junction following a crash,

Westbound traffic on Somnes Avenue, Canvey Island, from Central Wall Road to the A130 Canvey Way was also disrupted.
