In the tight race between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris in nine weeks, both campaigns and voter mobilization groups are trying to secure every vote they can for their candidates. That includes groups like Republican Voters Against Trump, which cut across party lines.

The group, a project of Republican Accountability PAC, launched its largest ad campaign of the election on Tuesday, targeting conservative-leaning independent voters and undecided Republicans in several key swing states, including Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District.

Republican Voters Against Trump, led by Sarah Longwell, a leading GOP critic of Trump and GOP strategist, launched in 2019, during the former president’s first term, and has been fundraising through the 2022 midterms.

While most voters have already made up their minds about a presidential candidate, the group has spent $11.5 million on ads targeting those still on the fence, especially Republicans who aren’t thrilled about supporting Trump. The group spent $50 million on ads targeting GOP voters earlier this year, according to the New York Times.

The latest polls show Harris ahead of Trump, but the election is still expected to be close, and Harris’ campaign is looking for ways to gain an even bigger advantage.

Harris’ campaign has spent the past few weeks courting GOP voters, including launching a Republican Voters for Harris campaign that has garnered more than 25 GOP endorsements. The Democratic National Convention in August even featured GOP speakers, including former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), former Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan (R), Mesa, Ariz., Mayor John Giles and former Trump White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham.

More than 200 former GOP staffers who worked for four GOP presidential candidates endorsed Harris last week in a letter condemning Trump’s response to the pandemic, his criminal convictions and his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.

“We gather again today, joined by new George H.W. Bush graduates, to reinforce our statements from 2020 and, for the first time, collectively declare that we will vote for Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz in November,” the letter reads.

“Of course, we have a lot of honest, ideological disagreements with Vice President Harris and Governor Walz. That’s to be expected. But the alternative is simply untenable.”
