Sektor’s Mortal Kombat 1 Fatality references Marvel’s Iron Man and comes out of that world

Mortal Kombat 1 creators NetherRealm have released a gameplay trailer for the upcoming DLC character Sektor, showcasing her Fatality and Animality abilities.

Sektor arrives as part of the Khaos Reigns expansion for Mortal Kombat 1, the latest game in the bloody fighting game series that has sold over four million copies. The expansion adds new story mode chapters available on September 24, along with Kombat Pack 2, which itself includes six new DLC characters: Cyrax, Sektor, and Noob Saibot (available on September 24), and guest fighters Ghostface (Scream series), T-1000 (Terminator 2: Judgment Day), and Conan the Barbarian (post-launch release date to be announced at a later date).

However, it’s Sektor who takes center stage in this new gameplay video, showing off the character’s abilities and moveset (a flamethrower, rocket attacks, and rocket boosters for improved movement and hovering) along with cutscene clips that shed light on the story fans can expect.

Here’s the setup, courtesy of publisher Warner Bros. Games:

In Fire God Liu Kang’s New Era, Sektor grew up immersed in the Lin Kuei culture – her father was a master armorer and her mother a leading warrior. This vast knowledge of weapons and the powerful combat skills passed down from her parents make Sektor a combatant like no other. Sensing a kindred spirit, Sub-Zero shared his grand vision of the Lin Kuei’s future with her and chose her as his most trusted lieutenant. Now, Sektor will force the Lin Kuei to evolve, and those who cannot change will be eliminated.

The highlight of the film, however, is a look at one of Sektor’s Fatalities. Here, Sektor takes on the persona of Marvel’s Iron Man, with a cool sci-fi headshot in the suit as he pulls his hapless foe into orbit before returning, his body incinerated upon re-entry.

Sektor’s Fatality in Mortal Kombat 1 evokes strong associations with Iron Man.

NetherRealm is of course no stranger to the superhero genre with its Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe crossover series. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a new game in the series – perhaps it’s time for a return, with James Gunn’s new DCU set to launch soon.

Meanwhile, the video also shows off Sektor’s Animality, a finishing move that allows her to transform into a rhino. Animality is part of a free update for all Mortal Kombat 1 owners, set to launch alongside Khaos Reigns on September 24.
