Earlimart man arrested in Delano drive-by shooting, deputies say

TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – An Earlimart man has been arrested in connection with a 2022 drive-by shooting in Delano that left two people dead, deputies say.

According to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office, homicide detectives arrested Marcos Antonio Mercado, 33, of Earlimart, at 10 a.m. Tuesday for the 2022 homicides of a 16-year-old boy and Ricardo Serrano, 21, of Delano.

Deputies say they were called to the drive-by shooting in the area of ​​County Line Road and Highway 136 in Delano on October 10, 2022.

Once on scene, officers said they found a man dead and suffering from gunshot wounds. Three additional victims with gunshot wounds arrived at the Delano Police Department a short time later, two of whom were airlifted to a local hospital.

According to MPs, one of the victims who was airlifted eventually succumbed to his injuries.

Marcos Antonio Mercado, 33, of Earlimart.

Criminal police investigators say they were able to directly link Mercado to the deaths after analyzing evidence collected at the scene. Mercado was booked on suspicion of homicide and attempted homicide.
