The California Highway Patrol said Andre L. Shih was killed in the crash that occurred around 9:10 p.m. on Highway 138 at Sayle Road.

Phelan, California. – Andre L. Shih, 85, of Adelanto, died in a crash over the weekend on a highway south of Phelan, the San Bernardino County coroner said.

The California Highway Patrol said the crash occurred around 9:10 p.m. on Highway 138 at Sayle Road.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Shih was traveling west on Sayle Road in a 2006 Ford at an unknown speed, and a 60-year-old Moreno Valley man was traveling east on Highway 138 in a 2022 Nissan at 55 mph.

Authorities said Shih made an unsafe left turn and crossed into the opposite lane just in front of the Nissan.

The front right of the Ford collided with the front of the Nissan. The impact caused the Ford to overturn.

Shih was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man driving the Nissan was treated and suffered minor injuries.

An investigation is ongoing.
