One dead, another injured in a shooting at Dorchester barbershop

Upon arrival, officers found two adult males suffering from gunshot wounds. The two victims were shot inside a barbershop in the area, Sergeant Detective John Boyle told reporters.

Washington St between Erie and Morse streets was roped off with yellow police tape as uniformed Boston police officers and homicide detectives investigated the area on Monday afternoon.

The shop, “Exclusive Barber Shop” at 184 Washington St., was roped off with yellow and red police tape.

The victims were treated on the scene and transported to two separate local hospitals, Boyle said.

One of the individuals was pronounced deceased at a hospital, officials said. The second individual is expected to survive.

The suspect was last seen fleeing the area, Boyle said. The direction they went in was unclear.

“At this point, based on the preliminary investigation at early stages for the investigation, we do not believe that this was a random event,” McLaughlin said.

As of 3:00 pm, officers were canvassing the neighborhood. No arrest has been made and the shooting is under investigation.

McLaughlin said he could not disclose what hospital the victims were transported to. The ages of the victims are also unknown.

There have been 13 homicides so far this year, according to the Boston Police Department. If or when the medical examiner rules this shooting a homicide, it will be the 14th, Boyle said in an email. This time last year, there were 30 homicides, he said.

The Boston Police Department is asking for the public’s help in this investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the homicide unit at 617-343-4470 or the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1-800-494-TIPS.
