Severe storms moved across central North Carolina on Sunday, causing road flooding and accidents in Wake County and Raleigh.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, three cars were involved in the crash at the intersection of Wake Forest Road and Saint Albans Drive. Police said seven people were injured; two people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police said the weather certainly played a role in the accident.

The National Weather Service issued a series of severe thunderstorm warnings Sunday for northern and southern Wake County.

“Raleigh creeks and streams, especially many near downtown, are rising rapidly with this second round of storms,” the Raleigh National Weather Service said. “Several creeks have risen more than six feet in the last 30 to 60 minutes.”

On Glenwood Avenue, several cars were flooded – stuck in traffic due to the rising water levels.

Raleigh police said officers responded to numerous weather-related calls, including road hazards, road closures and car accidents.

“Be careful during bad weather and do not drive through flooded areas,” police wrote on Facebook.

Organizers of the African American Cultural Festival delayed the final day of the festivities as storms moved into Wake County. Festival organizers later canceled the event when a second round of storms hit Sunday evening.

Just a few blocks away, storms forced Stone Temple Pilots to postpone their concert at the Red Hat Amphitheater after a delay of several hours.

Elsewhere in Wake County, the North Carolina Courage were forced to postpone the homecoming ceremony of five players who will compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics after heavy rain delayed the second half of their match against the Kansas City Current women’s soccer team.

“The club will announce the date and schedule for the ceremony shortly,” the team said in a statement.
