The Kenya-led International Police Mission in Haiti (MSS) has appealed to armed gangs in the country to surrender to law enforcement.

In an updated press release about the mission, the team said that once additional vehicles and other equipment are received, they will conduct clearing operations in Delmas, Bel-Air, Solino and surrounding areas to eliminate gangs.

The operation will be carried out in cooperation with the Haitian National Police (HNP) to restore normality in the areas.

In accordance with the assumptions of the international mission, the operation will be conducted on all fronts, including air, sea and land.

“Last week, the MSS received additional vehicles and equipment from the U.S. government, which has improved their cooperation with their Haitian counterparts.

“Pacative operations will be carried out at sea, land and in the air by clearing roads and streets to allow normal flow of people and movement of vehicles. In the meantime, the MSS calls on gang members to lay down their arms and surrender to the government,” the MSS said.

The operation led by the Kenyan police has appealed to all stakeholders to continue their support aimed at stabilising the situation in the Caribbean country.

We reaffirmed our commitment to ensuring lasting peace in Haiti,

“The MSS further calls on the Haitian people, authorities and stakeholders to continue to support the MSS in restoring security and improving conditions for free and fair elections to be held.

“The MSS remains steadfast and fully committed to its mandate as set out in UN Security Council Resolution 2699, working with the HNP to ensure the security of Haiti.”

Over the past few weeks, the team has recorded numerous victories, including the takeover of part of the country’s key infrastructure.
