3 children killed Friday in Grayson County crash on US 69

Three children died Friday evening in a car crash in Grayson County, officials said.

The crash occurred between Bells and Whitewright on U.S. 69 at 7:20 p.m., according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety. The Hyundai Elantra, driven by 40-year-old Hyrum Grandy, was traveling south and pulled over to avoid a crash when traffic in front of him slowed.

As Grandy reentered the southbound lane, he struck a Ford F-150 driven by 34-year-old Angel Martinez, the release said. Grandy’s vehicle then entered the northbound lane and was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado driven by Lane Recera, 29.

The crash killed three minor passengers in Grandy’s vehicle — Alvin Grandy, 10, Amara Grandy, 13, and Alexander Grandy, 14. They were all from Lone Oak.
