Raipur: A middle-aged woman she died when the wall and ceiling of her katcha house she collapsed while cooking in the kitchen and got trapped under rubblein Raigarh district on Monday morning.
The wall has weakened further due to continued rainfall in the region, with the weather service issuing orange and yellow alerts in parts of the state for the next two days.
The woman, identified as Guruwari Dhanwar from Tamnar district, used to wake up early and cook food for the day. She was in the kitchen around 5 am when the wall and ceiling of the house caved in. Raigarh has been witnessing continuous rainfall for the past few days, which is likely to have weakened the mud house, causing the collapse, officials investigating the incident said.
Since she could not be saved immediately, she died of injuries and suffocation. Her husband Sukhlal tried his best to remove the debris and pull her out, but it was too late.
Roof related incidents or collapse of the wall are continuously reported from different parts of the state, causing fatal injuries to people and children. Rainfall in other parts of the state has been suspended, though the weather department has predicted heavy rains in four districts of Bastar division, including Bijapur, Dantewada, Sukma and Narayanpur.
