Road accident deaths in Qatar fell by more than 57 percent in July

(MENAFN) In July this year, serious road accidents resulting in deaths in Qatar fell by more than 57 percent compared to the previous month, marking a significant improvement in road safety. According to the National Planning Council (NPC), only six people died in road accidents in July, a significant decrease from the 14 recorded in June 2024. This reduction represents the lowest monthly death toll this year so far. Additionally, the total number of road accidents fell by seven percent from 647 in June to 602 in July.

The majority of road incidents in July were minor, with only 23 classified as serious accidents. This reduction in fatalities and accidents underlines the positive trend in road safety, with the total number of road fatalities in the first seven months of 2024 standing at 89. During this period, there were 5,164 road accidents, including 261 serious incidents. This trend contrasts with the statistics from January, when a total of 843 accidents were recorded, including 41 serious and 17 fatal accidents.

The ongoing improvements in road safety can be attributed to the dedicated efforts of the Ministry of Home Affairs in enforcing road safety regulations and raising public awareness. These efforts are supported by the development of world-class road infrastructure and advanced traffic monitoring systems, which contribute to improving road safety for all users. The continued focus on road safety has been instrumental in achieving these significant reductions in road fatalities and accidents.

To further enhance road safety, traffic police have begun using surveillance cameras to monitor violations such as wearing seat belts and using mobile phones. According to the Ministry of Interior, any driver or front seat passenger caught not wearing a seat belt will be penalized. The enforcement of this law is in accordance with Article (54) of the Road Traffic Act No. (19) of 2007, which mandates that both the driver and front seat passenger must wear seat belts when the vehicle is in motion.
