According to Chicago police, at 1:10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 2, in the 5800 to 6000 block of North Elston Avenue in the Gladstone Park area, gunfire was exchanged between the occupants of two white SUVs — at least one of which was reported stolen.

One of the SUVs struck parked cars on Elston, and the occupants allegedly fled on foot, police said. Four shell casings from different weapons were found on Elston, but no weapons were recovered, police said.

Three suspects were arrested later that night after being found in a yard in the 5600 block of North Parkside Avenue and face misdemeanor trespassing charges, police said. They have not been charged in connection with the vehicle theft and the reported shots fired, police said.

Police said an SUV described as a Lexus was stolen in the 3500 block of North Ozanam Avenue.

The names of the suspects are not yet known.

The incident remains under investigation and anyone with surveillance footage is asked to contact the 16th (Jefferson Park) Police District.
