Mother killed in Notting Hill ‘protected her child’, family say

The family of a “beautiful inside and out” mother who was stabbed to death in front of her three-year-old daughter at Notting Hill Carnival have denied she pulled her daughter apart during a gang fight.

Cher Maximen, 32, was fighting for her life in hospital after she was stabbed last Sunday in the company of her young child and other family members and friends.

Ms Maximen was stabbed in the groin in broad daylight. Early reports suggest she tried to intervene in a fight on Golborne Road shortly before 6pm.

She died in hospital on Saturday morning, the Metropolitan Police confirmed.

Her grieving family released an emotional tribute via Big Ego Media, saying: “Cher was beautiful inside and out. She has a lot of family and friends.

“She was a good mother and caregiver to her family and close friends.”

Dismissing initial reports suggesting the model and clothing designer was trying to separate the fighters when she was stabbed, her mother said: “My daughter did not fight with any gang and a three-year-old.”

Friends have organized a fundraiser to pay for therapy for Cher’s only daughter, who witnessed her mother being fatally stabbed.

Yasmin Joseph said on GoFundMe she was trying to raise £20,000 for the little girl who “now has to face a future without her mother”.

She said: “Cher was enjoying a joyful day outdoors with her beloved three-year-old daughter when her life was cut short in an act of senseless violence.”

This little girl deserves all the love and care we can offer her during this incredibly difficult time.

“Cher wasn’t just a mother; she was a bright light in her community, known for her warmth and kindness. Her smile brought joy to many, and her legacy will live on through her daughter. Together, we can help provide this young girl with the resources she needs to grow up surrounded by love, support, and opportunity.”

In a separate incident, 41-year-old Mussie Imnetu, a chef working under Gordon Ramsay, was found unconscious with a head injury outside Dr Power’s restaurant in Queensway at about 11.22pm on Monday.

On Saturday, police said the man also died from his injuries.

Shakiel Thibou, 20, appeared at Westminster District Court on Wednesday charged with the attempted murder of Ms Maximen.

Due to Maximen’s death early Saturday morning, the case will be reviewed jointly with the General Prosecutor’s Office.

Mr. Thibou was also charged with possessing a knife in a public place and disturbing public order.

Shakiel appeared in court with his two brothers, Sheldon Thibou, 24, and Shaeim Thibou, 21, who have been charged with violent disorder and assaulting an emergency worker. Sheldon Thibou is also charged with possession of a stun gun.

Shakiel Thibou, of Masbro Road, Hammersmith, west London, and Sheldon Thibou, of Star Road, Hammersmith, have entered no pleas, while Shaeim Thibou, of Charleville Road, Fulham, south-west London, has entered not guilty pleas.

District Judge John Zani refused bail to all three defendants and ordered them to remain in custody until they appear together at the Old Bailey on September 25.
