Meta AI warns Lucknow police, saves woman from committing suicide

Social media company Meta AI saved the life of a woman who tried to commit suicide because she was allegedly upset about being abandoned by her husband, a police official said.

Police arrested the woman’s 23-year-old husband.

According to police, the 21-year-old woman was planning to commit suicide. She recorded a video of herself with a noose around her neck and posted it on social media.

While the video went viral, the Social Media Center of the General Directorate of Police office received an alert from Meta and the police immediately got involved. They immediately reached the spot after locating the village and stopped the girl from committing suicide.

ACP Mohanlalganj Rajneesh Verma told PTI Videos, “On Saturday, around noon, an alert was received from Meta AI at the Social Media Centre in the office of the Director General of Police that a young woman was hanging from a noose. Immediately after receiving the information, a police team reached the spot and rescued her safely.”

When the woman tried to commit suicide, her family knew nothing about it.

Verma also said that the woman was having an affair with a man living in another locality. The two got married at an Arya Samaj temple about four months ago and started living together as husband and wife.

“Since the marriage was not legally valid, the man left the woman and went to his home. The woman went into mental stress after he left her and decided to commit suicide,” Verma said.

Worried, she made a noose at home on Saturday and put it around her neck. She recorded a video and posted it on social media. In the video, she talked about committing suicide. The video quickly went viral, police said.

As soon as the alert from Meta was received, the General Police Directorate Office notified the relevant police station. The police quickly located the woman’s village, and a police team arrived at the spot with a policewoman.

After speaking with her, the woman was taken out of the room and spent approximately an hour counseling with policewomen.

The ACP said the woman is now healthy and the police are in constant touch with her. The entire case has been investigated, he said.

Verma said that based on the woman’s complaint, the man was arrested. The case is being investigated and the girl is under psychological care.
